The Fairfield Prep Jesuit Lacrosse team defeated the Darien Blue Wave 9-7 to win the 2024 CIAC Class LL State Championship. The victory gives the Jesuits its 7th state lacrosse championship in program history and the first for Head Coach
Graham Niemi. The Jesuits opened up a 3-1 first quarter lead on goals from
Nate Estrella '25,
Luke Shannehan '25 and Timothy Shannehan '24. The Prep defense led by
Gavin McCarthy '24,
George Hawley '24 and
Cooper Callahan '24 held a potent Blue Wave offense to just 3 goals after the 3rd quarter as the Jesuits held a 6-3 lead. An extra man goal by
Griffin Rothe '25 followed by a
Luke Shannehan '25 goal stretched the Jesuit lead to 8-3 late in the 4th quarter. Goalies
Garrett Keane '24 and
Matt Barry '25 combined to make 12 saves while
Ryan Backus '24 went 13-18 at the faceoff x to lead the Jesuits to victory. The Jesuits finished the season 21-1 and were ranked as the #1 team in Connecticut for first time since 2013. USA Lacrosse magazine also ranked the Jesuits as the #15 team in the nation in its final poll of the season.
