FAIRFIELD PREP ATHLETICS

Athletics are an integral part of everyday life at Fairfield Prep. With 17 Varsity sports, 35 athletic teams and over 70 coaches, our goal is to have as many students as possible involved in athletics, experiencing everything Prep has to offer. Close to 80 percent of students at Prep are on at least one athletic team and about 50 percent of students are multi-sport athletes. Our highest rate of participation occurs during freshman year, as many students go out for a sport in each of the three seasons, allowing for them to get to know their new classmates better.

There are three athletic seasons in the school year; fall, winter and spring and students are only permitted to play in one sport per season. All students must maintain academic standards set forth by the CIAC and have a sports physical on file with the school nurse in order to be eligible to participate in athletics. Every sport allows students time to receive extra help in the classroom before after school practice begins. Our goal is for practice to take place after school or in some cases before school, allowing for students to return home at a reasonable hour to complete their homework. All practices are held on the Fairfield University Campus with the exception of Crew (Captains Cove), Sailing (Pequot Yacht Club) and Hockey (Wonderland of Ice).

Fairfield Prep is a member of the Southern Connecticut Conference (SCC) for league competition and a member of the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference (CIAC) for State Championship competition in football, soccer, cross country, basketball, hockey, wrestling, indoor/outdoor track, swimming, golf, tennis, lacrosse and baseball.

Our crew team is a member of the New England Interscholastic Rowing Association, our rugby team is a member of USA Rugby, our ski team is a member of the Connecticut Interscholastic Skiing League and our sailing team is a member of the Fairfield County Sailing League.

Due to roster sizes, facilities and lack of opponents, some sports have to make “cuts.” While that is an extremely difficult experience for a high school student, we do offer a number of “no-cut” sports. Cross country, indoor/outdoor track, rugby, wrestling and football all offer students the ability to join their team as long as they are able to commit to all practices and competitions and safely compete in the sport.

Fairfield Prep has an extremely rich athletic history winning 51 State Championships and 60 SCC Championships. Our teams are consistently ranked in the top of the state and have won numerous sportsmanship awards. Our coaches have also been recognized countless times for their achievements on and off the field. In addition to our team coaches, we have an Athletic Trainer and a Strength and Conditioning coach on staff.
