The 2024 golf season will be Coach Bernier’s 20th year at the helm. During his tenure, the Prep Golf Team has won six SCC championships (2006, 2007, 2010, 2017, 2021, 2022) and finished as the SCC runner-up three time (to Xavier HS in 2008, Cheshire in 2009 and NDWH in 2015).
In the Division 1 State Tournament, his 2021 2022 and 2023 team all won Division 1 titles, while the 2017 team finished third, and the 2009 and 2010 teams each finished fourth.
In 2009 and 2021 the New Haven Register named Coach Bernier their New Haven Area Coach of the Year. In 2019, the SCC named him Coach of the Year. In 2023 Coach Bernier was named Coach of the Year by the Connecticut High School Coaches Association.
During his career at Prep, Coach Bernier has taught Latin, Ancient Greek and English, and served as Director of Admissions (1996-1999) and Vice President for Advancement (1999-2002).
Coach Bernier has also coached hockey, football and baseball during his 40-year career.
