Fairfield Prep head soccer coach
Ryan Lyddy '93, has announced that he will step down from his position after 10 years of leading the varsity program. Lyddy served as head coach of the Jesuits from 2010-2019 and took the program to new heights during his tenure.
   Â
"It's been humbling and an honor to be the head coach at Fairfield Prep these past 10 years. It is a first class institution and being a graduate of the place, I believe very strongly in the mission of the school, its leadership and its exciting future," said Lyddy. "My two girls are now in 7th and 9th grade. Time flies and I want to make sure I spend as much time with them at home before they head off into the world; I don't want to miss a moment of their high school careers."Â
Â
Lyddy was a standout player for the Jesuits during his high school years and returned to Prep in 2001 after playing collegiate soccer at Dean College and Western Connecticut State University. Lyddy coached the freshman team for six seasons before taking over the varsity program in 2010.
           Â
The Jesuits qualified for the CIAC Class LL state tournament for 10 straight years with Lyddy as head coach and helped the team reach the state quarterfinals in 2011, 2012, 2015 and 2016, the semi-finals in 2012 and 2016 and the state final in 2012. The Jesuits played in the SCC Tournament Championship game six times, capturing four SCC title's in 2011, 2012, 2014 and 2018, as well as leading the Jesuits to seven SCC regular season divisional titles. Lyddy's career record as head coach is 133-43-40.
           Â
"I'd like to thank Father Tom Simisky, Tommy de Quesada,
Tom Curran, Tim Dee and all of the other administration and teachers at Prep for their trust in me to lead this program. I'd also like to thank all of the coaches I've worked with along the way who offered such great knowledge and support," said Lyddy.
       Â
During his time at Prep, Lyddy developed and coached numerous All-SCC and All-State players as well as developing a number of collegiate players at all three levels. Lyddy served as head coach for the Connecticut High School Senior Bowl team in 2016 and 2018 and is the Coaching Director for the Newtown Soccer Club.  Â
             Â
"What I will miss most of all is the hundreds of kids I have coached and watched grow over their Jesuit careers. We won a lot of games on that field, but most importantly, we grew as people. They allowed me to bring my fire and passion for the game of soccer to the pitch every day, I cannot thank them enough for that," said Lyddy.
Fairfield Prep Athletic Director Tom Curran on Ryan Lyddy: "I've had the pleasure of being able to work with Ryan for nine years and can truly say that he has transformed the soccer program at Prep. He has put Prep soccer on the map and instilled a belief in our players that they can compete with any program in New England. His immense soccer knowledge, personality and ability to relate to high school athletes is reflected in his incredible 10-year record. He has also had amazing perspective during his career about the positive impact he can have on high school students and what is really important about being a high school coach. We will miss Ryan greatly and are grateful for all that he has accomplished at Prep. He has set the program up for success for many years to come."
