Prep football to open season against Belen Jesuit

Two Brother Jesuit Schools face off on September 9

JESUIT FOOTBALL TEAMS COLLIDE ON THE GRIDIRON

On Friday, September 9, 2022, at 6 p.m., two Jesuit brother schools will collide on the gridiron at Rafferty Stadium on the Fairfield University campus. Coach Don Chaney, Sr., and the Belen Jesuit Preparatory School football team in Miami, FL will travel to Connecticut to face Coach Keith Hellstern and the Fairfield Prep Jesuits. A weekend of festivities has been planned for the historic matchup, as the two communities will come together and celebrate mass, take campus tours and share meals and brotherhood before facing off on the field. The traveling Belen community will certainly be represented in the stands.

"We are thrilled to welcome our Belen brothers and their families to Fairfield for this historic football event. Beyond the thrill of the game itself, we are gratified to continue our decades of collaboration with the Belen community of Miami. While the boys will be competitors on the field, they are brothers for life in our shared Jesuit mission to become loving men for others who serve a needy world. Hail Prep and Go Wolverines!" – Fairfield Prep President Christian J. Cashman

"It isn't every day our young men get the opportunity to share in the spirit of competition with another Jesuit school seeing as we are the only Jesuit school south of Tampa. It's not only going to be an exciting match-up but an extraordinary experience." – Belen Jesuit President Fr. Guillermo M. García-Tuñón, S.J.

"The Fairfield Prep community and football program is excited to host our Jesuit brothers from Miami. We look forward to competing against a talented Belen Jesuit team to open Friday night football in Connecticut for 2022!" – Fairfield Prep Head Football Coach Keith Hellstern,

The Society of Jesus is both a missionary and a teaching Roman Catholic religious order since it was founded by Pope Paul III at the request of Saint Ignatius of Loyola in 1540. The motto of the Society, "Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam," indicates its goal to help all men and women to live according to Christ's example of love and service.  The Jesuits dedicated themselves to spreading the Gospel in mission lands and to the apostolate of education very early in their history.
