The Fairfield Prep Rugby team and first year Head Coach Kevin Kery won the Connecticut Rugby State Championship 33-28 over Greenwich High School at Staples High School Saturday afternoon. The Jesuits scored a game winning try by
Conor Fitzsimons with no time remaining at the back of a driving maul to earn the victory.
Brice Muller added two tries of his own and
Malachi Mercer-Robinson and
Nic Vittoria each had one try. Vittoria also went four for four on conversions for the day. The Jesuits were on the board first and after multiple lead changes Greenwich pulled ahead with 4 minutes to go. After a last second penalty and a kick to the corner, Fitzsimons was able to put the Jesuits ahead for good and begin the celebration at midfield.
